10 Winter Hotspots in Guelph

Guelph is a city on the go. And one thing is for sure, the winter doesn’t slow us down! When the temperature dips below zero, the fun starts heating up in Guelph.

1. Skating in Market Square

Strap on some skates and take to the rink to enjoy the downtown scenery. The rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A skate under the stars is a must.

2. Enjoy a hot chocolate at Sweet!

After all of the skating, warm up with a hot cup of cocoa from Sweet! While you’re there, indulge your sweet tooth with some nostalgic candies and classic favourites – you deserve it after all.

3. Groove to live music during Music Weekends

If you love live music but the weather seems so frightful and staying in for the evening cuddled up on your cozy couch seems so delightful – don’t fear! Downtown Guelph presents an awesome line-up of bands playing at various venues in the downtown core Saturday and Sunday afternoons all winter long.

4. Tobogganing at Moe/Mole Hill

A great Guelph debate – is the popular sledding hill actually Moe Hill or Mole Hill? It doesn’t matter what you name it because you’ll be calling it fun after spending the afternoon zipping down the hill on your sled.

5. Discover The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

When the days are just too cold to go outside, head to paradise! Walk amongst thousands of free-flying tropical butterflies just minutes from Guelph. If you’re lucky, a butterfly might land on you. Don’t forget your camera – if there’s no picture, it didn’t happen.

6. Explore the trails at Ignatius Jesuit Centre

Whether you snowshoe or cross country ski, you’ll be in awe as you journey though some of the over 15 kilometres of trails on site.

7. Winter walks through The Arboretum

A top spot in the summer, The Arboretum is just as beautiful and interesting to explore in the winter. Try and see how many different types of wildlife you can find along the trails.

8. Throw an axe at Riot Axe

Put on your finest plaid shirt and take all of your built-up energy to Riot Axe. Book a private event with your friends or drop-in on Monday nights for some axe throwing fun – newbies welcome!

9. Shop at the Guelph Farmers’ Market

Winter doesn’t slow the Guelph Farmers’ Market down. Open year-round, the market is full with local favourites including fresh produce, preserves, prepared foods, handmade items and so, so, so much more. Pro tip – grab a snack to nibble on while shopping – donuts and dumplings come highly recommended.

10. Learn to Curl at the Guelph Curling Club

A secret Canadians won’t let the rest of the world in on; we all don’t know how to curl. But there’s no excuse not to learn if you’re new to the sport, or need a refresher, head to the Guelph Curling Club for one of their Learn to Curl sessions.
